Indiana is the 100 Step Cemetery. Through the years a legend evolved. The legend says that on an entirely dark night if you count 100 steps when you reach the top and climb all of the steps you are supposed to see a ghost. This phantom is supposed to permit you to have a vision of when you are to die. Should you walk the 100 steps again to the bottom and turn around, you will not perish as exhibited in the vision. You’ll die as predicted if you do not reach 100.The ghost is thought to be the first undertaker of the cemetery. Further tales say that if you don’t walk on the stairs, and decide to go down on the grass and hand will push one down and leave a handprint that will stay on your own body for a few days. The handprint is thought to be the sign of the devil.
There’s also a story about the 100 Step Cemetery that has been reported in The Indianapolis Journal on November 20, 1892. The narrative states that the body of the daughter of George West, who had been interred in the cemetery, was taken from her tomb. Mr. West had the body exhumed to proceed to another location, but was horrified to discover her coffin was upside down in the ground and the body of his daughter was missing.
